Abstract

Radio frequency identification (RFID), a 30-year-old technology used for niche application, is now being adopted by major corporations around the world. This seminar will examine the history of RFID and why RFID is suddenly getting hot. It will put the developments in the RFID industry in the context of business technology and needs. It will explain the dynamics of adoption and the current state of technology standards. The session will explain how RFID is deployed, it's major business applications, and lessons learned by those have already deployed the technology. It will also cover the impact RFID will have on business processes, supply chains and the economy and labor. Finally, the session will look ahead and explain how RFID technology will evolve and what its evolution means for the future of business.

Biography

Mark Roberti founded RFID Journal in March 2002 with the belief the RFID would become an important technology for supply chain, manufacturing, retail and other applications. The Journal has since grown to 150,000 monthly readers online and is respected as the world's RFID authority and Roberti is widely considered to be a thought leader within the industry.

Roberti has reported on business and technology since 1985. His work has appeared in Business 2.0, Fortune, The Asian Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, The New York Times and many other publications. Prior to launching RFID Journal Roberti was senior writer at the Industry Standard and prior to that he was managing editor of InformationWeek.
