Abstract

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)....a question of WHEN not IF for businesses and consumers. Just a few years ago, people questioned if VoIP would replace the existing telephone system with over 100 years of operational history. Does it work? Is it reliable? Does it scale? And, if so...why? The answer is yes and you will find out why in the MIS Research Center Seminar.

VoIP is an emerging technology that is gaining widespread acceptance in the consumer, business and governmental sectors. The first order driver for acceptance of VoIP was and still is today free phone calls. However, the second order effect of VoIP stands to change the very way we connect and communicate with people and the network. The MISRC Seminar on "Developments in VoIP" will examine the following trends and questions:

* How does VoIP actually work?
* How does this compare to the traditional phone network?
* What are the unseen business impacts of VoIP?
* What are the key consumer benefits of VoIP?
* How does the balance of power shift between consumers, businesses and service providers?
* What are the impacts on traditional business models?
* What are the most innovative uses of VoIP by businesses serving customers today?

VoIP is truly in its infancy relative to the traditional telephone network. Join us to understand how you can take advantage of this unique time in the history of communications.
