Abstract
Open source software is beginning to enter the mainstream and can no longer be ignored, even by the most conservative IT organizations. According to Forrester Research, "open source software for mission-critical infrastructure and applications has crossed over from a pioneer or early-adopter status to the point where it can be considered a mainstream alternative." (9/11/2006)
This seminar will answer the question "what is open source software and why should you care?" It will delve into many practical matters and answer questions such as:
What are the important trends and best practices in open source software?
How do you evaluate open source software licenses, based on intended use?
How do you develop, implement, and integrate open source software?
How can you integrate & support open source software into your production environment?
Biography
Uwe Vieille is an Architect Director in the Unisys Open Source Pillar and has over 30 years of experience in the Information Technology industry. Uwe has served in numerous roles including IT Strategy and Architecture, presales support, and business development. Uwe also served as Vice President of IT Strategy and Technology at Phoenix Global Consultants, an international consulting company to the air travel industry.
Uwe obtained a BS in Telecommunications from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL ,and an MBA from Northern Illinois University.
