Event Registration

Abstract

How does the information revolution triggered by the Internet affect demand, prices, and market structure? In this presentation Nelson Granados will answer this question based on his research on the economic impact of IT-enabled market transparency. He will then discuss the strategic responses by firms in this new business environment and the role of the CIO, using a framework that links business strategy, information strategy, and IT strategy.

Biography

Nelson Granados is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at Pepperdine University. He has a Ph.D. in information systems, an MBA, and a Ph.D. minor and a Master's Degree in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. Nelson's research interests relate to the strategic and economic consequences of the Internet.  Much of his cited work deals with the impact of Internet-enabled transparency on consumer demand, market prices, and the broader impact on market structure, particularly as it relates to the travel industry.  This research has received multiple awards, including two for Best Publication of the Year from senior scholars of the IS field and the Journal of the Association for IS, and Best Paper awards at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences and the e-Business INFORMS Annual Meeting.

Prior to joining academia, Dr. Granados gained extensive real-world experience, which contributes to the relevance and applied value of his research.  He was a Product Manager for Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Enterprise Systems at IBM in Colombia and he performed multiple revenue management functions for Northwest Airlines and KLM in U.S., Asia, and Europe. His involvement with industry continues. Last November, he was part of the distinguished panel of judges of the Travel Innovation Summit, where firms in the online travel industry compete for a technological innovation award.
