Abstract
This presentation will provide insights on mobile technology adoption and usage patterns and related mobile phones design practices in developing and developed countries. The presentation will also highlight recent research on sustainability principles employed by top phone manufacturers, and illustrate how these principles impact business processes for new mobile products design, production and distribution. Implications for new product and innovation management, innovation diffusion, and digital divide research, as well as for policy decisions and business process changes for mobile and other high-tech companies in developed and developing countries will be discussed.
Biography
Alina M. Chircu is an Associate Professor in the Information and Process Management department at Bentley University. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science and a Ph.D. degree in Management Information Systems. Prior to joining Bentley, Dr. Chircu has taught MBA, MPA, undergraduate and PhD courses on IT-supported business processes, e-commerce, decision support systems, research methods, and information systems at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa. Her current research interests include business process management and the business value of transformational technologies such as e-commerce, e-business e-government, and mobile communication technology. Dr. Chircu's research has been published in the Journal of Product Innovation Management , Decision Support Systems , Journal of Management Information Systems , Communications of the ACM, Electronic Government , International Journal of Electronic Commerce , and Electronic Markets and in several book chapters, and has been presented at many conferences. Dr. Chircu has also been a chair, moderator and presenter in both academic and practitioner panels and workshops. She is the Membership Vice Chair and Board Member, AIS Special Interest Group for ICT in Global Development (SIG GlobDev) and serves on the editorial board of several journals.
